Handmade in brass – rear light brass escutcheon plinths are seen on variety of earlier DB2 models.
Used from the early First Sanction cars in the late 1940’s through to the later DB2/4 models during the 1950’s. With design cues replicating the early peeked front centre grille shape seen on the First Sanction models, at DMark® we have been re-producing these for more than 30 years using DMark® custom tooling, jigs, patterns and aids and derived from data from original parts.
The brass plinth’s are handed and have been carefully fabricated, fettled and then polished, and fit against the bodywork by way off four BA4 threaded studs.
Handed escutcheons for the near-side and off-side of the vehicle are supplied as a set or individually each coming with a tail-light lamp and metal housing, rubber sleeve and our new fitting kit.
All DMark® DB2 brass escutcheon plinths are finished as polished brass, ready for chrome.
Customers have the option to receive their new brass escutcheon plinths in polished brass or chrome.
Be rest assured at DMark® we only work with long-standing, reputable electroplating firms for our work and products. The DB2 escutcheons are essentially a “bolt-on” component so some clients prefer DMark® to handle the chrome plating. However we do appreciate there are others who will handle the chrome plating themselves and prefer to have their component in polished brass. Perhaps you’re restoring the whole car and want to have all your chrome plating done at once after a dry-fit?
For the most part, we usually have escutcheon sets In Stock, if not, lead-times are fairly low.
Fixtures and fasteners (nuts and bolts) are supplied.
Customers will be aware that, in particular, when vehicles have had extensive repairs; their bodywork, paintwork and the extent of body-filler used can change the panel-shape of the zone mouldings are meant to sit. At DMark® we have taken great care to replicate the most original shape known but occasionally that may differ from the surface geometry of a vehicle. A similar scenario could also mean stud holes in the bodywork may differ to the stud positions of new DMark® parts.
Sold as a complete set – and the most popular option for client – we offer both the near-side and off-side brass escutcheon light plinths plus the tail-light lamps and metal housings, rubber sleeves and our own fitting kit as one set.
New Escutcheon fitting kit by DMark®
Original escutcheon plinths had three small sheet metal fasteners or clinch nuts which aligned with the holes in the rim of the bulb housing. Bulb housings sourced nowadays come with an array of holes and rubber sleeve diameters that do not fit or align particularly well with original escutcheon dimensions. Metal bulb housing and sleeve diameters used back in the 1950’s were smaller than what is available nowadays, therefore fitting new sleeves onto the original configurations, especially ones still with clinch nuts close to the brass edge, can be awkward.
DMark® has solved this little issue with our improved plinths and fitting kit by having two holes, better spaced, that perfectly align with brass inserts set into a plastic (Acetal) ring. Our new Acetal (engineering plastic) ring allows for new rubber sleeves to pass through and sit snugly and correctly against the plinth. This arrangement allows for better, easier fastening and alignment. Our plinths do not use clinch nuts or nutserts, instead they are intended to be used with our fitting kit.
