Aston Martin DB2 Front Grille (Horizontal slats)

Vehicle Marque: Aston Martin
Model:
  • DB2
  • DB2/4
  • DB2/4 MK2

Standard configuration DB2 front grilles are made with a steel wireframe construction and brass slats, replicating the Feltham originals from the 1950’s.

All grilles are carefully constructed using – true-to-original – profiled V’d slats on our own bespoke tooling derived from original drawings and dimensions sought from original parts. Brass grilles are soft and silver-soldered together and replicate the original early 1950’s factory-floor construction. Our aluminium versions provide customers with a lighter alternative to the traditional chrome plated brass versions.

Each grille includes a starter handle slider cover that snugly fits our slider box.

All new grilles have been manufactured on DMark® custom tooling, jigs, patterns and aids for more than 15 years.

All DMark® DB2 grilles are finished as polished brass. Every front facing brass surface is polished ready for chrome.

Customers have the option to receive their new grilles in polished brass or chrome.

Be rest assured at DMark® we only work with long-standing, reputable electroplating firms for our work and products. The DB2 grille is essentially a “bolt-on” component so some clients prefer DMark® to handle the chrome plating. However we do appreciate there are others who will handle the chrome plating themselves and prefer to have their grille in polished brass. Perhaps you’re restoring the whole car and want to have all your chrome plating done at once after a dry-fit?

For the most part, all grilles are Made-to-Order or limited to just one or two in stock.

Fixtures and fasteners (nuts and bolts) are not supplied but do see our new fitting-kits for more information about attaching the grille to the bodywork if the existing bracketry has had better days.

The brass we use for the slats has a gauge of just over 0.9mm or 20 Standard Wire Gauge (SWG), whereas the original material used in the 1950’s was a little bit thinner at 0.7mm or 22 SWG. Having a little more material, and along with other small improvements, makes the DMark® DB2, DB2/4 and DB2/4 Mk2 grille-sets that bit more rigid and structurally sound.

The normally configured standard grille is made from brass and mild steel with 20 slat rows and 23 individual slats.

Grille refurbishments

Having repaired many dozens of DB2 grilles from all over the world for more than 40 years – we do still repair damaged or worn ones – when circumstances align.

Each grille DMark® accepts for repair will receive a complete overhaul and be comprehensively stripped down, repaired and re-assembled. We do not undertake partial repairs. We use the same jigs and tooling to re-assemble old grilles as we do new. Refurbishing can be a laborious process but customers do retain more of the original componentry if that is an important aspect to them.

Clients are also aware that refurbishment costs are not always cheaper than a new grille.

Grille trade-in

DMark® may offer a discount against a new grille in return for your old one. Grilles supplied to us under this basis need to be genuine Aston Martin DB2 grilles although we do recognise they will most likely have wear and tear or parts that are damaged, corroded or missing.

We may still accept grilles that are heavily damaged or worn.

For customers who require a lightweight version of a brass/chrome grille. Our lightweight grilles in brass come with half the number of slats – 10 slat rows rather than 20.

An attractive alternative for vehicles used for competition because of their reduced weight compared to the normally configured grilles, and with only 10 horizontal slats, they allow greater airflow into the engine bay.

Each slat and starter handle slide cover in our Ultra lightweight aluminium version comes as polished aluminium.

There is no need to have this grille chrome plated.

The aluminium used in construction has a gauge of 1.2mm.

The prototype grille (pictured) was constructed using a two-pack metal glue, which worked well. We may or may not have a go at laser welding it together in the future.

A standard grille made from aluminium gives customers the option to own a normally configured grille with 20 horizontal rows which is significantly lighter than a standard regular brass/chrome version.

Some customers may wish to use their brass/chrome plated grilles for concourse events but would prefer a second grille for competition or commuting.

Aluminium grilles do not need to be chrome plated, supplied pre-polished and ready to be fitted directly on the car.
