Bentley 3/8 Special
A beautiful car built for Mr. Spencer Flack. These big powerful cars of the 20’s and 30’s are great to work on, they look so distinctive…
Don Standhaft
We completely built this vintage Bentley’s aluminium body, bonnet and wings for a client of McKenzie Guppy’s back in the early 1990’s, one of a number of projects we have worked together on over the years. Now of course we share the same workspace with McKenzie Guppy and still continue to work closely on a wide variety of jobs to this day.

John Guppy’s cars not only looked fast but damn well go fast too…
Don Standhaft
This John Guppy built car was unique hybrid brute. We built the bonnet, under-tray, wings and aluminium body over the frame manufactured in Sweden for it’s Swedish owner. The inspection lid in the scuttle was an unusual, but a great idea because it gave good access to the back of the dash and wiring.

Bentley 3 Litre
Principally we’re a panel-shop. This was the first time we oversaw a timber frame construction built within our workshop. Normally any timber-work is completed before it arrives with us…
Don Standhaft
This job also required a new timber frame, although we do do some small timber work ourselves such as the deck boards this frame was built by a carpenter in our old workshop, then we took it from there. All trimming by Ian Best, Tarrant Valley Trimming.
1924 Bentley 3/8 Twin Turbo
A beast of a car built in conjunction with John Guppy, I was also particularly pleased with how the turbo manifolds turned out…
Don Standhaft
A 1924 Bentley 3/8 Twin Turbo were we produced the front valance, wings, bonnet, louvres and the aluminium turbo manifolds which are quite a distinctive feature of the car. You can also see more high quality photos of this car and the work we undertook plus a video with Jay Leno on Jay Leno’s Garage website, the owner of this car. Trimming by Ian Best of Tarrant Valley Trimming.

1935 Bentley Thrupp Maberly Darby Drop Head Coupe
An extensive job. Here we have panelled over a newly built timber frame…
Don Standhaft
With this new build we produced all the pannelling you can see in the photos baring the lower bonnet sides. The timber frame was made by David Partridge who has kindly allowed us to use some of his photos.
Bentley James Young Saloon Bonnet
This German client was touring in hotter climates and needed a way to help cool the engine…
Don Standhaft
Another McKenzie Guppy client required special modifications to this James Young Bentley saloon bonnet. We developed a mechanisum to open and close a set of louvres. A special louvre tool was also enginnered.
Extra Large Bentley Speed Six Stainless Steel Fuel Tank
Working with heavy guage stainless was not easy. Heat generated from the TIG welds coursed distortion across the panels pushing it out of square, which took time to overcome. Extreamly happy with the end result however, fitting snuggly, pressure tested and looking great…
Don Standhaft
McKenzie Guppy asked us to make a stainless steel fuel tank for their big Bentley Speed Six build. Not a standard size, the client wanted a bigger tank so we had to add volumn to the original design wherever we could. Capacity was added to the top and inner sections under the rear chassis cross-member on both sides.
Bentley Speed Six Aluminium Exhaust Cladding
Looks simple but surprisingly difficult to get right…
Don Standhaft
Newly fabricated aluminium exhaust and silencer box cladding for McKenzies’s WO Bentley Speed Six build. Due to the tight fit and positioning the cladding required various concave recesses, but all in all it still ended up looking good in that neat brushed aluminium finish.
Bentley S3
These types of cars can be prone to rust in certain areas but they look so good they’re worth spending the time and money on. Both these cars are popular wedding vehicles…
Don Standhaft
Both these Bentley S3’s needed extensive bodywork repairs. There was plenty of leadwork and panelling repairs particularly on the light silver car. McKenzie Guppy had taken on the job but later drafted me in to complete the bodywork because at that time they had a huge influx of work. This customer has these vehicles regularly serviced at McKenzie’s so from time to time we still see them – for more photos see the Hawthorns Wedding Cars site.
Bentley Speed Six Mudguard Wings
I’ve always liked the clean sweeping lines of these peaked Speed Six mudguard wings…
Don Standhaft
A set pair of steel mudguard wings, infact we still have the buck for these. One of many dozons of wing sets we’ve manufactured over the years. You can also see these wings on the home page/logo of McKenzie Guppy Ltd
